What is a high defensive line?
A high line squeezes the pitch — but speed in behind kills it.
Playing high compresses the pitch and supports — opponents have less room to build. The trade-off is vulnerability to balls over the top. traps rely on a high line. Keepers with good sweeping and pacey recovery runs from centre-backs are essential.
