What happens inside the penalty area?
Inside the box, defensive fouls become penalties.
The 18-yard box is where defensive fouls become penalties — a one-on-one shot from 12 yards. Keepers enjoy handling privileges here but must release the ball within six seconds. Attacking players can be in the box, and handball decisions here carry the highest stakes.
