How does VAR check penalty decisions?

Penalty checks cover both awarded and denied spot kicks. VAR confirms the foul location relative to the line and whether the contact constitutes a punishable offence. A penalty can be overturned if the incident was outside the box or no foul occurred. A missed penalty can be awarded after monitor review.
