Can VAR upgrade a tackle to a red card?
VAR can turn a yellow into a red after a monitor review.
monitors all serious foul play and violent conduct, even if the referee only cautioned or missed it entirely. The referee uses the pitchside monitor to upgrade yellows to reds or issue straight reds for missed incidents. Downgrading a red to yellow is not permitted under current protocol.
