What is offside?

Offside isn't about where you stand — it's about when the ball is played.

A player is when they are nearer to the opponent's goal than both the ball and the second-last defender at the instant a teammate plays the ball. It only applies in the opponent's half and when they are involved in active play. Being in an position alone is not an offence — they must gain an advantage from it.
