Why did VAR intervene?

VAR monitors four match-changing situations: goals, penalty decisions, direct red cards, and mistaken identity. It only overturns 'clear and obvious errors' — not close calls. When VAR spots an issue, the referee either changes the call from the pitchside monitor or confirms the original decision.
